Staywell Program History
The Intermountain Power Service Corporation began promoting wellness in 1988. Management has been committed to improving employees' health and well-being through its Staywell Program. The Staywell Program has two facilities that offer fitness opportunities including an on-site walking path. Fitness activities were first offered at the construction workers' housing adjacent to the plant site, which is now promoted as a community center, providing strength and cardiovascular equipment, racquetball, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and other recreational activities.
In 2001 the program expanded to include an on-site facility with advanced fitness equipment offering numerous health and fitness activities and programs including an annual on-site annual health fair
Since the inception of the wellness program, three different wellness directors have been employed who have promoted and overseen wellness activities and helped employees return to full activity following athletic-type injuries or illness. Brian Coles is the current director and has a masters degree in health and fitness and is certified as an athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist.
In 1995 IPSC received the Governors Award offered by the Utah Council for Worksite Health Promotion. IPSC has received an award every year since 1995 advancing to the silver level, and then gold. In 2004 IPSC received the highest recognition of platinum level and has maintained that status since that time.
IPSC is committed to improving the health of employees and their families, and helping to reduce the rising cost of health care.
